Application Scenario
In underground coal mining operations, efficient and safe water management is critical. This application involves a smart control system for the main drainage pump station located deep in a coal mine shaft.
System Configuration
✅ ARMxy Intrinsically Safe Main Controller
✅ X-DI Board – Detects water level switch and vacuum pump status
✅ Y-AO Board – Controls the pump inverter via analog output
Implementation
The X-DI board monitors key signals:
Water level float switches (normally open contacts)
Vacuum pump status (dry contact inputs)
The Y-AO board outputs a 0–10V analog signal to regulate the pump’s variable frequency drive (VFD), corresponding to motor speeds between 0–50Hz.
An OpenPLC program dynamically adjusts the analog voltage based on water level and system demand, ensuring optimized pump operation.
To reduce energy costs, the system automatically adjusts pump schedules based on peak and off-peak electricity pricing.
Key Benefits
📡 Remote switching between manual and automatic modes from the surface dispatch center
📈 Energy-efficient operation through intelligent scheduling
🔒 High-reliability design using industrial-grade X and Y series I/O modules
🚨 Enhanced safety and automation with real-time monitoring of mine water levels
Conclusion
This coal mine drainage control solution, built on the robust ARMxy platform with OpenPLC, ensures intelligent, safe, and cost-effective water management in demanding underground environments.
